Tapsi, I'm long in answering this, but your description of Bhutan made me want to visit. The chiles and cheese sound especially beguiling!

Jenifer, I love it that you grew up in Petoskey and were married on Walloon Lake. (Our friends are not far up the road from the country club, so I know exactly where you were.) It's so beautiful and I really must get back to a place next summer where I can really explore kayaking--it was marvelous.

I'm just finding this now (not sure how I missed it this summer). It's a lovely look at two of my favorite places in Michigan. I grew up in Petoskey and was married on Walloon Lake (at the 100-year-old country club before they tore it down to build new), and I live now in Ann Arbor. So glad you enjoyed this part of the country. So sorry you had to deal with the traffic! It's why I so rarely make it up north in the summers even though my mom still lives there.

How gorgeous Barbara, your holiday sounds fantastic. I'm back from a fabulous holiday in Bhutan, where I fell in love with this local dish called ema datsi (chillies in a cheese sauce), as well as the local beer called Red Panda which I'm desperately trying to locate back in Delhi, with no luck. We saw some lovely monasteries, went for drives through these quiet, green, densely forested valleys and generally hung around the capital, Thimpu. I was going on holiday after ages and ages, and came back with ideas on a new and improved me :)

My husband and I spent the week preceding the 4th, and the 4th, in Santa Fe. It was our first week of vacation in 2 1/2 years and we had a wonderful time. We slept late, went to Garcia Street Books and loaded up on books, read a lot, ate very well, went to three concerts, went to the flea market, visited art galleries, etc. We were able to relax more than we have in a long time. The evening of the 4th, we went to a new (for us)restaurant in Santa Fe and had a wonderful dinner, got an ice cream, walked around the Plaza and did some people watching. We came back totally rejuvenated. It was just perfect.

Our 4th was all barbeque and family. Afterwards, we joined practically everyone in the county who gathered in the park alongside the river for a wonderful fireworks display. Oh, and our quaint little downtown now has a store where you can make your own herbal/spice-infused vinegars and oils, or buy theirs. Come for a visit and we'll go there.
